Elouda, the ancient Olous, is situated on the northern end of the Bay of Mirabello in a distance of 11 kms from Agios Nikolaos.
Elouda has become a cosmopolitan resort due to its first class hotels and its beautiful and calm surroundings.
The lagoon of Elounda is shaped between the coast and a peninsula which has length of 7-8 kms. The peninsula was separated from the mainland by a channel dug by the French army at the end of 19th century.
A narrow bridge joins the peninsula with the mainland. Some ruins of the ancient city of Olous are preserved on the edge of peninsula but the rest of them are below the sea level.During summer, boats leave the harbor every hour , to transport visitors to the small island of Spinalonga opposite of Elouda.
